SINGS – Songs Including a New Generation of Singers!

“One of the finest organizations for those with intellectual disabilities is the Special

Olympics. As a musician, I find one category missing: Choral Singing. The sport of

choral singing is overlooked because we are dealing with muscles that are not seen.

The vocal cords need continuous and correct exercise to keep our voices in shape. Breath is our power source, which can help us relax and control ourselves through certain breathing techniques. These exercises are offered in a choir

for people with intellectual disabilities”

Phillip D. Hill, DMA, baritone

The El Paso Society for Musicians of the Future (EPSMF) acknowledges the education of our friends with intellectual disabilities. They can contribute musically in so many ways and must be given this opportunity to become future musicians.

EPSMF has formed a choir for persons of all ages with intellectual disabilities.  Each person will be accompanied by a buddy of their choosing (mom, dad, sibling, caregiver) who will participate in rehearsals. Seating arrangements are not strict. Friends can sit with friends. There will be 10 rehearsals in the fall Semester and 10 rehearsals in the Spring semester with an open rehearsal in front of an audience on the last rehearsal.

We would like to know if you want to participate. Contact us at info@epsmf.org.
